#23 (Week 9) Is this really the end? or just the beginning....

I am doing last post hoo!hoo! It was a great learning experience. I learned a lot. I was not familiar with many things before. It had a wonderful journey through RSS, Flickrs, Technorati, Podcasts, Ebooks, Rollyo, Library thing and enjoyed to learn the new things everytime. I am quite happy after web 2.0 training I can help customers on computers better When Customer will come and ask about these things, I can share my knowledge with customers how they can be benefitted from different options on net.

Web 2.0 training also helped people to think about how I got motivated to help people after learning so much.

#22 (Week 9) Ebooks (aka the end is in sight...)

I looked at Project.gutenberg free source of ebooks. It is most used library as you can found all the books in one library. It gives you option of different ways of download and gives us ideas of latest books what other people are reading on particular subject. If we don't want to download we can go offline catalogue and can use other software. It gives option for faster download if we choose location worldwide closer to where you are. So there are plenty of different methods of download. We can access latest books faster as compared to printed one.
I tried to read William shakespeare's youth drama Romeo and Juliet. It does gives option for different ways of download but for me I always prefer printed version than reading on screen.

Week 9 Podcasts (You don't need an ipod!)

I looked at podcasts directory and found that you don't need any mp3 player or ipod to listen the music when you can do through podcasts. All you need is a PC. Podcasts is like an audio blog. When you are doing household work you can listen them. searched through podcastalley.com
I chose Education Genre and subscribe to my blogsline account this link

In the libraries podcasts can be used during storytime for children and when we organise adult literacy sessions for speakers of other language it can be very helpful when two languages can be heard with exact pronunciation.

Discover Youtube......

Discovering Web 2.0 Tools

From the seomoz. shortlist, I decided to choose Questions and Advice. I found it very helpful as with it we can share knowledge, help others and save money as well.
Since everything is online thesedays. We can get answers and advice on every topic. Once you go to ask something in concern to everyday life as well, You can click on ask question and it only ask you ID, Which we have or can make one. It will be quite helpful in our library system as library is a place where we get customers asking all type of questions. We can link with our library site and probably will be a great help for customers.

# 18 Week 8 Zoho

I found zoho writer great and interesting. I created my account with Zoho and I tried to access it it was closing saying microsoft has encountered a problem on other day. But When I tried it today it worked very well. We can create our document and save it online, can also edit it offline and can see changes when we go online again. Instead of emailing people we can share document with people and can add people who want to read only and others who can edit it. We can publish that document in our blog or can make it public as well and that's what I did.

Week 7 or Thing 17

I looked at AucklandCity Library bebo pagehttp://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MID=367137231&MemberId=4428799413 and it is very good. I logged on into their bebo page and sent a request to be a friend. Then I looked through MySpace and since I listen Radio Tarana most of the time so I tried to go on my favourite Radio Station but it was blocking, So that did n't work well. It allow you to look through without login and I tried to search music from India and we can listen music of different states and then I downloaded picture from that If you click on link

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=1000354823&albumID=0&imageID=224232

After that I created my a/c with facebook because it doesn't allow you to look through without creating a/c and it ask to find friends. Actually Face book is quiet good social networking site.

Lastly I looked at Hennepin-County-Library and That is pretty cool. They have got lots of fans and you can chat with librarian and some people were putting wall posts on that. Since I have face book account It takes me directly there where other people are and I can find friends.

Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

I started this post a while ago, and since then I have been busy with other stuff. I like the views of Dr Wendy Schultz that how the libraries are changing from collection of information only to digital age and librarians are acting as trainer for their users with all the information and skills they have. Michael Stephens view of Librarian 2.0 is quite good how librarians can enhance service to its users by meeting online as through Any questions where other libraries including Manukau Libraries help students in doing homework. Public libraries sometimes can not provide enough resources for study purpose and in that case National libraries resources can also be used. I enjoyed the video that related to this week's topic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gmP4nk0EOE I enjoyed how everything is so easy and approachable and also lots of money could be saved where all books are available free and immediately to anyone who has a computer and internet connection. But then probably authors will have no motivation to write books and many people still love to read, If the library will become a virtual place and perhaps the library building will be replaced with a website gateway. So instead of present jobs there will be different jobs to deal with. It is interesting to look forward library web 2.0.

Technorati

I have had a good look around Technorati and did a keyword search for Learning 2.0. in blogs posts It gave me 10,181 results for no. of posts but we can limit our search with tags only, with authority and with language as well and it gives different result.

Then I looked at Blog directory. It is used to find blogs about subjects we are interested in. When I explored the most popular blogs and found that Boing Boing is most popular blog. It has 3848 fans. It is weblog of cultural curiosities and interesting technologies. I looked at Manukau Libraries blog as well.

Tagging, Folksonomies & Social bookmarking in Del.icio.us

I had a look at Del.icio.us and found that really Delicious. I used PLCMCL2 account and clicked on a bookmark that had been bookmarked by alot of other users.
I enjoyed looking at
http://www.librarytechtonics.info/

http://www.theshiftedlibrarian.com/ To create tags for bookmarks take a bit of fiddling and once you know how and I got carried away organising it all. I think I can bookmark page where I can keep all the things what I learnt and my experience through journey of Web2.0 and also I can keep record of my favourite websites.

Learn about Wiki

I think wikis are great way of collecting up and then sharing information. I looked at several library wikis and found that Princeton Library wikis nicest to use. It is small and for reviews of books. Wikis can be used in many ways in libraries but some examples could be In Manukau Libraries we can have wiki for staff to access and customers to use to post reviews about books and linking that to library catalogue. It will help customers to choose books on catalogue.
When I looked libraryforlife.org/subjectguides/ that was interesting as well. Our Libraries can have wiki like that which can include subject headings for Fiction-Crime, Historical, NZ fiction, General Fiction, Adventure, Science Fiction, YA fiction, Children Fiction and Nonfiction-computers, Cooking, Health, History, Sports, Science.

Anything technology related that interests you this week....

My favourite technological thing at this moment has been my cell phone. My cell phone is slim design with great audio quality. It has easy music access in one touch crystal clear sounds with dedicated chip. I can enjoy high quality stereo music from phone, mp3 player, pda or pc. I can download any of the songs I want, I can even hook it up to the radio in my house and hear them loudly if I want, It's just great. I can take photos on my phone and can store them on my phone as well as short movie clips along with their audio soundtrack and now I have Flickr account I can share photos with my friends and family.

magic garden tree

I had another flickr fun by using flickr color pickr. It is very easy as what you have to do is choose a particular colour and flickr finds the public photos that matches your favourite chosen color. I chose the flower color pickr and clicked on the dark pink as in flowers I like pink more than any color then I got magic garden tree.
To find out that click on this link.

Locating a few useful library related blogs and/or news feeds

topix.net has got kids and teen directory, where appropiateweb sites for kids and teen could be found.
syndic8.com/ took a long time to load. Once things come up it took long time to go further.

technorati.com/ was intersting and I could find blogs on paticular subject by doing a search.

Roll Your Own Search Engine With Rollyo

I found Rollyo very interesting. I followed the instructions that were clearcut how to set up your account. To creat my own searchroll I can pick up the sites I want to search and a custom search engine will be created for me and will bring up all the sites related to that subject can be accessed.

In the libraries kids and teens and always come to the librarians and ask for help in homework. Other thing is that I like cooking as in our house we do lots of cooking. By inspired from that I created two searchrolls. My Homework & My recipes.

RSS Feed

It took a long time to set up the online RSS links as pages were not loading and flicking between screens was also time consuming.
From the tutorial provided, I figured out how to set up bloglines account and to subscribe various news feed.

Library Thing was interesting to play around with. There was huge range of books and also connect to people who read same thing.
After subscribing to various news feed, library related blogs and leisure feeds I can get latest news of interest straight away without searching the computer.

Then I looked at suggested search tools Topix.net, Syndic8.com & Technorati which can be used to find RSS feeds of interest.
The public link of my bloglines account is

Shining Stars

Hi

I had fun creating this blog. That was my first time. But I followed the instructions and it was quite easy. I have chosen blue colour template because I like blue colour. The first thing was to name the blog. I had a little bit thought but then I thought start with something positive.
